It’s Lakeshore Brew Fest Time!

Fall has definitely arrived this week in Grand Haven. The leaves are starting to turn beautiful shades of red and gold, and the nights are cool and crisp. As much as I hate to say goodbye to summer, I do love putting on my sweaters and boots when fall arrives. Of course, I especially enjoy all the snacks that we eat when the new season begins. Even though blueberry season has passed, there are many great fruits to enjoy in the fall.

One of my favorite fall events is the annual Lakeshore Brew Fest at Camp Blodgett located between Grand Haven and Holland. This celebration is fairly new—this is its third year—but it is quickly becoming known as a great event that really shouldn’t be missed. First and foremost, the Lakeshore Brew Fest is a fundraiser for underprivileged children whose lives are a constant struggle. For these children, Camp Blodgett’s after-school program and summer camps offer tremendous hope, and a chance to join in traditional camp activities and enhance their learning skills at the same time. Camp Blodgett has been changing the lives for these children for many years.

I know there are many worthy causes out there, and we all get asked to help by either donating or volunteering. Camp Blodgett happens to be very near and dear to my heart. The camp is located just a few doors from my home, and all summer long, I delight in the sounds coming from the camp and campers: laughter, singing, and the daily dinner bell. For me, these are truly the best sounds of summer!

Camp Blodgett also serves other populations besides campers throughout the year. When we aren’t hearing the sounds of summer camp, we are often hearing the wedding march being played or the sound of a DJ playing tunes at a wedding reception—sometimes well into the evening! This beautiful spot along the lakeshore is a happy place for so many, including kids, brides and grooms, and entire families. So, it’s imperative that we keep this camp in top-notch condition, especially since it’s right here along the lakeshore, practically in our own back yard!

If you are in town, you really need to check out the fun at the Lakeshore Brew Fest. Here are all the details:

Saturday, October 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Camp Blodgett—10451 Lakeshore Dr., West Olive, MI
Local breweries and live music
Purchase tickets online at lakeshorebrewfest.org (must be 21 to enter).

Rumor has it that Blueberry Haven will be closed on October 10 for a “staff appreciation day” as everyone wants to attend this BIG EVENT! The festival will go on rain or shine. I have attended in all kinds of weather, and I have never been disappointed. What’s better than enjoying some craft beer and cider, listening to music, and supporting kids of Michigan? In my opinion, the Lakeshore Brew Fest is one of the best fall events. But you know me…I have plenty of opinions!
