Celebrate Your Dad with a Special Gift

If you read my blog frequently (I hope at least a handful of you do), you may recall my tribute to all the moms out there on Mother’s Day. I hope I enlightened at least a few of my readers with my explanation of the history of Mother’s Day. Well, I thought it was only fair to do the same for all the amazing fathers out there.

I wasn’t sure where my research would take me, and I thought I might discover that Father’s Day was another holiday that my family deems as “created by one of the greeting card companies.” It turns out I was wrong. Father’s Day was actually inspired by a woman many years ago.

According to my research, the first Father’s Day celebration was held at a YMCA in Spokane, Washington, by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father was a single parent who raised his six children by himself. After Dodd heard a sermon about Mother’s Day in 1909, she had the idea that fathers should be celebrated and honored in a similar manner, and she told her pastor about her plan. Although she first suggested June 5 (her father’s birthday) to be Father’s Day, the pastors of the church didn’t have enough time to properly prepare their sermons, so the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.

As you know, we continue the same tradition every June, and that means Father’s Day is less than two weeks away. Many of you undoubtedly send a card to your father on his special day, which is a nice gesture. I’m not against sending cards, but did you know that for about the same price as a card, you could give your dad some yummy blueberry treats from Blueberry Haven?

Of course, if you want to get your dad something really special on his big day, we have many great gifts in our store that he will love. Our new baseball hats have arrived as well as our summer t-shirts. The shirts are a throwback from our original t-shirt we stocked several years ago. Our first t-shirt was a Hanes Beefy-T, and it was my husband’s “go-to” shirt.” You know the one I’m talking about—the favorite shirt that you want to burn because it’s so comfortable and the only one he ever wears! We brought back the original cotton t-shirt and just changed the front and back images. We think you will like it. Even better—your dad will LOVE it!

So, if you haven’t bought something for your dad, come in soon and we will help you pick out the perfect gift. We will even package it up nicely and ship it out if that’s what you need. If you forget the address when you come in to Blueberry Haven, no worries! We will be happy to let you call or we can look up the address for you. We are here to help in any way we can.

I can’t forget to wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in my life: my dad, the father of my boys (my husband), my brother and brother in laws, my father-in-law, and of course, all of the dads who have helped my boys along their journey of life. Here’s to all of you amazing dads!
